A 40-year-old man, wanted in a murder-cum-dacoity case from Delhi’s Ranjeet Nagar area, was arrested by the Delhi Police from Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area after evading the law for 16 years, officials said on Monday.
The Police said that the accused, Rampreet Kamat, a resident of Supol in Bihar, had been declared a proclaimed offender by a court in 2010, with a reward of Rs 5,000 announced for his capture.

According to a senior officer, a complaint was received by Amarjeet Singh Kharbanda on October 30, 2009, when he returned home and found that his wife had been murdered and their house ransacked.
The investigation back then revealed that Kamat, along with his associates, was responsible for the murder and robbery.
“While other accomplices were apprehended earlier, Kamat managed to flee and remained on the run for over a decade,” the officer added.
Following a tipoff, the police zeroed in on his location in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. “Kamat avoided returning to his native village in Bihar for years, fearing arrest. He had been living in Indirapuram and working as a house painter,” an officer said.
With this lead, a team was sent to the tipped location who managed to lure him with a fake painting job in a nearby flat and arrested him in Abhay Khand in Indirapuram.
During sustained interrogation, Kamat revealed that he was involved in the murder-cum-dacoity case, further disclosing that he had resided in Delhi’s Todapur with his associates at the time of the crime.
“After the other accused were arrested, he initially fled to Bihar and later moved to Ghaziabad to avoid detection,” the officer mentioned in his statement further.
Further investigation into this case is ongoing by the team, the officer stated.
